About us

Theobroma cacao pod on the branch

The MIT Laboratory for Chocolate Science is a student club founded in 2003 by Ariel Segall '02. Our mission is to share the appreciation of chocolate across campus, and to bring opportunities for learning about, appreciation of, and indulgence in chocolate (Theobroma cacao) to the MIT community.

We host regular events, such as Finals Hot Chocolate, ESP & IAP classes, truffle making, and chocolate tastings. We're famous for being the only group on campus that orders more than 500 lbs of chocolate per year! 🍫❤️
